I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work that Church Urban Fund do, so I wanted to raise money for them as part of my participation in the Advent Sleepout Challenge.
We are taking the challenge again this year, which will be our 3rd year in a row, and we are excited to be able to support the work of the Together Network once more. Last year, we did things a little bit differently and we decided that we wanted to do something extra that was of benefit to homeless people living on our doorstep here in Hounslow. We got in contact with St Mungo’s Hounslow, who are a charity who work all year round with homeless people in the Borough of Hounslow. They are on the frontline of homelessness in Hounslow and were able to share with us as a youth group what some of the needs are. Nadeem Jangua, the Outreach Manager for St Mungo’s Hounslow, said “the biggest need homeless people have at this time of the year is just for the essentials to keep warm during the cold nights”.
As a result, we made the choice to ask for donations to sponsor rucksacks which contained the essentials such as hats, gloves, socks and thermal blankets. One rucksack filled with these essential items costs just £17 and through generous donations of people both in and out of the church here at St Paul’s and the Good Shepherd, we were able to donate 17 rucksacks to Nadeem and the team at St Mungo’s Hounslow. They then handed these out to homeless people they had been working with around the Borough of Hounslow.
Two of the young people in our youth group who participated in the challenge last year had this to say shortly after the event.
“It was a great night and it gave me a bit of an idea of what it was like for the homeless in the area.”
“It was good to experience what kind of food the homeless get to eat from the St Paul’s Foodbank.”
We were glad that by giving up one night of comfort, we were able to make a difference to the lives of those who are homeless here in Hounslow and we are excited to be taking up the challenge again on Friday 30th November 2018.
Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Church Urban Fund, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
